GDPR - Data Protection

GDPR Consultancy

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is a new law that will replace the Data Protection Act 1998 and will apply in the UK from 25 May 2018. GDPR represents the biggest change to data protection law for a generation, and it will impact every organisation that processes any kind of personal information.

GDPR will have some very specific impacts on Independent Foster Agencies which will affect how they manage data, as well as how data is processed by foster carers and how cared for children manage data in their own right.

Information Commissioner Elizabeth Denham has been clear about the importance of organisations, especially those handling the newly defined 'special category data' such as IFAs, preparing for and complying with the new laws.

As trained GDPR readiness assessors via the IASME scheme, Guardian Saints members are working with independent fostering agencies to raise awareness of the new law, its implications and obligations, and to help IFAs implement the necessary policy and process changes.

“If your organisation can’t demonstrate that good data protection is a cornerstone of your business policy and practices, you’re leaving your organisation open to enforcement action that can damage both public reputation and bank balance."
Elizabeth Denham, Information Commissioner
