The course is designed to develop greater understanding of the risks young people face daily when using mobile phones, tablets, gaming consoles and other internet-connected devices. It focuses on increasing carer knowledge of internet-connected devices and the skills to set appropriate safety controls. It also covers carers’ responsibilities in line with their internal policies. 

These sessions are designed to be interactive discovery aids that help the young people who tell us how they feel about the safety of social media and other online platforms and to build their digital resilience.

The stated outcome of these sessions is to outline the key issues that attendees need be aware of to support online safeguarding for young people in care. The session is designed to be interactive; we actively encourage attendees to participate and ask questions relating to any particular concerns/issues they have.

Online Safety for Young People

The course is designed to help young people be aware of their own safety when using apps and digital platforms. It’s important to be aware of the potential dangers of the internet and equip our young people with the tools they need to stay safe online. This training will explore how to achieve online safety for young people. The session is designed to be interactive; we actively encourage the young people to participate and ask questions relating to any particular concerns/issues they have.


  • Top 10 Apps that pose a risk to young people (ages 11-17)
  • Why privacy is important
  • When to apply privacy settings (thinking about location services)
  • Demonstration (applying privacy controls in TikTok or Instagram)
  • What to do when a risk is encountered

Online Safety Training for Young People in Care
